Research Workshop: Call for Papers

For the workshop we invite submission of papers engaging with aspects of Scott Soames’ work. Papers should be apt for a presentation of no more than 45 minutes. This call is not restricted to graduate students.

The deadline for submission was March 15, 2010.

Applicants should send the following documents for blind review:

  • A cover sheet including: author’s name, title of paper, institutional affiliation, contact information;
  • An extended abstract of about 1000 words, including title, with no information identifying the author or the author’s institutional affiliation.

The documents should be sent as email attachments in either *.doc, *rtf., *ps. or *.pdf format to calls@fromthearmchair.net. Please write “Workshop” in the subject line. Receipt of submissions will be confirmed by email.

The applicants will be notified by April 7, 2010 about whether their talk has been accepted for presentation at the workshop.

Graduate Conference: Call for Commentators

We invite graduate students to apply for presenting a 10-minute comment on a paper that is selected for presentation. Graduate students who are interested should get in touch with the organizers by writing an email to calls@fromthearmchair.net. Please write “Commentator” in the subject line.

Graduate Conference: Call for Papers

We invite submissions of papers by graduate students on topics relating in any way to issues connected with the notions of meaning, modality and apriority.  Topics that may be addressed include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • a priori knowledge and justification
  • the analytic-synthetic distinction
  • modality and modal epistemology
  • the necessary a posteriori and the contingent a priori
  • metaphysical possibility and epistemic possibility
  • meaning, reference and understanding
  • conceptual analysis, thought experiments and imagination

The papers should be suitable for a 35-minute presentation, and must in any event be no longer than 4’000 words. From the submissions eight papers will be selected for presentation. All presentations will be followed by a 10 minute comment by a graduate student.

The new deadline for submission was February 15, 2010.

  • A cover sheet including: author’s name, title of paper, institutional affiliation, contact information, word count of the paper;
  • A paper no longer than 4’000 words, including title, with no information identifying the author or the author’s institutional affiliation;
  • A separate sheet including only the title of the paper and an abstract of no more than 300 words.

The documents should be sent as email attachments in either *.doc, *rtf., *ps. or *.pdf format to calls@fromthearmchair.net. Please write “Graduate Conference” in the subject line. Receipt of submissions will be confirmed by email.

Applicants must be graduate students by February 1, 2010. Please notice that we do not accept more than one submission per person.

Applicants will be informed before 15 March about whether their paper has been accepted for presentation.
